Fountain pen friendly planners for 2020

We’re only two months away from 2020, and it is time for most folks to start looking for their perfect planner. But if you’re new to fountain pens, you should know this by now: not all paper can take your favorite nib and ink combination.

So here is a list of mostly-Japanese planner options in the Philippines that can match your fountain pens, based on what we already know so far.

Hobonichi Techo – These Japanese planners feature Tomoe River Paper: smooth thin sheets that can handle all of your inks. That means you can get lots of pages, minus the bulk! They have many styles and sizes each year that can match your preferences.

Traveler’s Notebook – Yes, new TN users! You don’t have to fret over the unique size requirements that comes with choosing the refillable leather journal. TN has 2020 Diary refills that come in monthly and weekly variants in both regular and passport sizes. MD Paper is used for these refills

Midori – MD Paper is lovely, and it comes in forms other than the TN defaults. The Midori Diary 2020 comes cleanly in standard planner sizes. But if you’re the type who can commit to just one planner for a long time, there are 5-year and 10-year variants of the Midori Diary.

Muji – Yes! Muji’s planners are fountain pen friendly. Prices start at Php 145 which is way cheaper than their tabo.

Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf Giving Journal – If coffee binging is your thing this holiday season, CBTL’s Giving Journals have been known within the community to be fountain pen friendly in the past few years. Our review of the 2019 edition showed just that, and hopefully they continue being suitable for fountain pen use for the 2020 edition. Update: a representative told us that the 2020 edition is still fountain pen friendly. We’ll update this list once we complete the needed 12 stamps.

Leuchtturm1917 – If you prefer a simple black cover notebook, Leuchtturm1917’s paper is known to be much better than Moleskine’s while offering similar sizes and color ranges.

Mercury Drug Planner – Surprised? Your suking  drugstore regularly offers planners that have received favorable feedback in terms of fountain pen friendliness.  Now you can put your Suki Points to good use.

  1. Is the paper used for the Midori 1 day 1 page planner the same as the paper in Midori Cotton?
